Review

The first episode is pretty lighthearted compared to the next two. For this reason it quickly creates a likeable cast in the first episode with some fun scenes. The angels are faced with the problem "I'm not human," but as cliche as the topic has become, the show really does a great job pulling it off. Some of the scenes in the second half where the angels are getting beat up broke my heart, especially the scene with Midi.

In the first two episodes the angels try to destroy large hypercannons. These cannons are the main reason that humanity is living underwater. There is a hypercannon in the sky that can appear at anytime to take them out as soon as they surface. The third episode shows the angel's pasts when they were human. These scenes are done in black and white and are some of the best parts of the show. The show gets better as it goes: the first episode was good, the second episode was better, and the third episode was great.

Voogie's Angel has nice OVA quality animation and some good action scenes. It has a fun opening and good background music. There is a different ending song for each episode, performed by Shiho Kikuchi, Sakura Tange, and Aya Hisakawa.

Unfortunately, the show doesn't have an ending. Though far from finished, it doesn't end on a cliffhanger, and I think it actually stops at an acceptable point in the story. Even so, based on the three episodes that were made, I still feel that there is enough content here to justify a purchase. Going into the show I wasn't too sure what to expect, but I was impressed with the way a lot of it was done. Worth a look.
