Kazuto is a high school student managing a bathhouse that belonged to his grandfather. One day, Valkyrie, a princess from another planet, lands her spaceship on top of his bath house, killing Kazuto. She gives Kazuto half her soul to bring him back to life and as a result it causes her look and act like a child.
Review
In Ultramaiden Valkyrie, aliens are apart of everyday life and many frequent Kazuto's bathhouse everyday. It's a silly, lighthearted show without a whole lot to offer. I didn't find the comedy very funny, however it is very cute at times. There is almost no story whatsoever meaning most of the episodes can be classified as filler.
Sanada, Valkyrie's catgirl servant, spends nearly an entire episode filming Valkyrie being cute because she is obsessed with how adorable little Valkyrie is. In another episode, Sanada turns many of the young girls in town into loyal catgirls to search for Valkyrie who has gone missing. When Valkyrie and Kazuto kiss, Valkyrie goes through a revealing transformation where she returns to her original adult self for a little while and gets a wand with magical powers. She usually transforms when she needs to fix something she did wrong when goofing around in her child form.
The characters are uninteresting and I couldn't care less about any of them even after watching the few character-focused episodes. Kazuto is a bland lead with no likeable qualities. Throw in a couple other characters like Kazuto's sister Rina and his childhood friend Akina and UFO Ultramaiden Valkyrie simply becomes another generic romantic comedy series with nothing original. On the positive side, Valkyrie is adorable in her child form.
The animation, while not bad, looks uninspired. It uses some shortcuts and doesn't look quite as fluid as it could. The character designs are a bit cute and the artwork is decent. There is some detailed nudity in most of the episodes from the various bath scenes and naked transformations. I didn't even think the fanservice was very titillating.
At its best, UFO Ultramaiden Valkyrie is a mindless way to pass the time. I wouldn't say I disliked the show or that it's boring either, however, there is hardly anything interesting here and I would have a hard time trying to justify putting down the money for it.
