The Adventures of Mini-Goddess

Summary

When Keichi leaves the house, Belldandy, Urd and Skuld use their powers to make themselves little so they can goof around with the local rat, Gan-chan.

Review

The Adventures of Mini-Goddess is a spinoff of Ah! My Goddess. Keichi himself never appears and the goddesses are never shown at their normal sizes. It's all fun and games in this series. Belldandy takes a backseat to the other two goddess, as most episodes involve Urd, Skuld and Gan-chan. Gan-chan is a rat who hangs out with the Goddesses in every episode. He isn't stupid or annoying, he is actually the source of a majority of the comedy and a really fun character.

The Adventures of Mini-Goddess is a pure comedy series. The episodes are 5 minutes long with some of the stories taking two episodes to tell. Most of the episodes are pretty funny and had me bursting out with laughter at times. Episode themes include Gan-chan trying to find love, Gan-chan trying to fly, Gan-chan trying to lose weight and many other short stories involving Gan-chan and the other godesses. A lot of the comedy comes from the situations Gan-chan finds himself in and his reactions to them. The poor guy always gets the short end of the stick. In some episodes, Gan-chan will go to the goddesses for help but find himself in a worse situation than he started in.

Overall, I found the first half of the series more enjoyable than the second half. The reason for this is because a new character, Maria, is introduced midway through the series and spoils some of the fun in many of those episodes because she is always trying to find a way to ruin the goddesses' plans. She isn't in all of the episodes, but a lot of them.

The animation gets the job done but it's nothing spectacular. The goddesses look really cute in their smaller forms because they always look super deformed. The background music always has the perfect tune for every situation. There isn't an opening, but there are two catchy ending themes.

The Adventures of Mini-Goddess is an easy recommendation for fans of Ah! My Goddess who just want to see the goddesses being cute and having fun. If you haven't seen Ah! My Goddess, this is still very easy to get into because there really isn't any connection to it other than using the same characters. Overall, it's pretty fun, but not a must have.
