Melty Lancer

Summary

The Melty Lancer team, comprised of a beast girl, a priestess and even a magical girl (with her own transfermation sequence!), have been called to regroup again for a new assignment. Re-assigned to the lowest of low headquarters can this team work together and stop IYONESCO before its too late? Well, maybe if the commander wasn't so busy working on those model kits...

Review

Melty Lancer starts off introducing the Melty Lancer team and bringing them back together for another assignment. Comprised of five young women (and even gains a cute yet violent mascot in episode 2), they set out to accomplish their mission. They are after IYONESCO, but aren't exactly sure what they are up to or why they were even called for this task. This show has lots of eye candy and a few well done action sequences.

To say it bluntly, this show is just too confusing. Too many people are involved with the plot and the story felt like a mess. I hoped by the end of the show things would have been sorted out but I was still just as confused as when I started. Maybe multiple viewings would help sort things out. Also, when a show introduces new characters 5 minutes before the show ends to help wrap things up, something is wrong.

It's a shame, really, because Melty Lancer looks fantastic. This show really pushes the boundaries of OVA animation which needs to be seen to be believed. Even the CG looks great. The show isn't a total loss, I enjoyed most of the characters on the Melty Lancer team, the animation and the futuristic feel and look of the show, but it's hard to recommend a show like this. I really wanted to enjoy it, but it just doesn't hold together all that well. Worth a rental at best.
