Tsunami has been chosen as the Queen of Juraihelm, but in order to become the true queen, she must select a girl on earth that will bring balance back to Gemini. She chooses Sasami Kawai, an average happy 4th grader to become the magical girl Pretty Sammy. However, Ramia, who lost to Tsunami for the title of queen, will do anything she can to stop Tsunami from becoming the queen. To do this, she chooses Misao, Sasami's best friend, to become a magical girl as well. Misao transforms into Pixy Misa, an evil magical girl, so she can stop Pretty Sammy from restoring the balance.
Review
Magical Girl Pretty Sammy is a spinoff of Tenchi Muyo! that makes Sasami the main character, and a magical girl at that. It's really a parody of the magical girl genre, with several jokes and little bits of comedy worked in which had me laughing a lot. There is never a dull moment because the show is so much fun and the cast that is full of energy.
Misao is unaware that she is Pretty Sammy's rival, Pixy Misa, because she is being controlled by a strange hypnosis that makes it so she can't remember anything she did while she was a magical girl. Misao is shy girl, but Pixy Misa is very outgoing, making that obnoxious laugh of hers wherever she goes. Pixy Misa doesn't really seem like she hates Pretty Sammy, it's more of a playful teasing than anything else.
Pixy Misa uses her power to turn objects into Love-Love Monsters that fight Pretty Sammy. These Love-Love Monsters are hilarious because their designs are so silly. In one episode, Pretty Sammy must fight a chemical flask, but since it doesn't have feet, it can't get close enough to attack, so Pretty Sammy defeats it right away. In another episode, Pretty Sammy fights Karaoke Girl who suddenly stops attacking because no one selected the next song.
For a little more than half the series the story doesn't make too much progress, and it's basically Sasami fighting a Love-Love Monster in each episode, but these episodes are still a lot of fun. The show spends quite a lot of time on Sasami and Misao's friendship, and some episodes have good character development between the two. The last few episodes have some unexpected and fun twists, and the series ends well.
Several characters from Tenchi Muyo! make it into the show, so if you have seen it you will get a few more of the jokes. However, whether you've seen Tenchi Muyo! or not, it's still makes for a very solid magical girl series. Mihoshi is Sasami's home room teacher, Washu is her crazy science teacher and Ryo-Ohki is the cute little mascot. Ryoko and Ayeka also make it into the series, and other characters, including Tenchi, get short, one-episode appearances. Additionally, Sasami's parents are amusing characters who make the show even more entertaining.
The animation looks good overall. It does use the typical recycled animation for Pretty Sammy's transformation and attack that most magical girl anime do. The opening theme is catchy, and I would watch it several times in a row at times because it's a fun opening sequence. There are two ending themes, the first one I liked, but the second one not so much.
I can't emphasize enough just how much fun this show is. Magical Girl Pretty Sammy is hilarious, has a really fun cast, and is very enjoyable from beginning to end. Definitely check this one out.

Language
Very little profanity.
Violence
A little bit of fighting, but it's very tame.
Sex
Sasami does take a few baths with her dad, but it's tastefull. There is some very brief undetailed nudity, and some light fanservice here and there.
