Fight! Iczer-One

Summary

The Cthulhu, an alien race, invades Earth and begins destroying it. Earth's weapons are no match for these invaders and its only hope is Iczer-One. She has come to protect the Earth, but she needs to find a partner who will help give her robot, Iczer Robo, more power.

Review

The "aliens invade earth" plot isn't the most original story line, but the way everything plays out kept me entertained. Iczer-One's main goal is to infiltrate the Nova Fortress and kill their leader, Big Gold. She will need Nagisa's help when piloting Iczer Robo to destroy the enemies' robots. When Iczer-One and Nagisa pilot Iczer Robo together, Nagisa is able to give the robot incredible power. However, there is more interaction between them than Nagisa simply piloting Iczer Robo. The main alien characters get adequate development, or at least enough for a three episode series to make them more than lifeless drones.

There is some robot fighting, but the show doesn't revolve around Iczer Robo. There are actually more melee fights than there is giant robot action. The action is handled pretty well with some neat scenes. I like the horrific look the creatures have - some of the scenes are quite freaky-looking. There is a lot of nudity from the aliens and Nagisa because she pilots Iczer Robo naked. Nagisa also gets an attractive outfit in episode two with a mini-skirt that leaves no question as to what color panties she is wearing. The background music has some great pieces, especially the main battle theme. Each episode has a different ending theme song. The third ending is a great one.

One complaint I have is that the first episode feels just a tad rushed compared to the other two. After Nagisa witnesses her parents death, she is quickly forced to pilot Iczer Robo. I also think Nagisa is slightly annoying in the beginning because she is constantly saying she doesn't want to fight. However, I feel that she does redeem herself by the end of the show.

Fight! Iczer-One successfully balances a decent story, a fair cast, and some good action scenes into an enjoyable three episode OVA series. If you can handle the old school look and a little corny dialogue, then you should enjoy this. Recommended.

Hardly any profanity.

Very violent. Some very freaky-looking alien creatures that attack humans.

Detailed nudity and some panty shots. There is a scene with two naked girls kissing, and some hinted lesbianism between Iczer-One and Nagisa.
