Review

Saint Tail is an average magical girl series. It's very episodic; Saint Tail steals and Asuka Jr. tries to capture her in every episode. It is also very repetitive because all the episodes are essentially the same thing, but not necessarily to the point of making the show an unpleasant one. The episodes have enough creativity and fun character interaction to them to make them entertaining. There is a romantic relationship that develops between Meimi and Asuka Jr., but aside from them teasing each other a little, not too much happens until near the end.

All of the episodes play out pretty much the same way and the quality of the show stays pretty consistent throughout the series. An episodic character goes to a chapel to pray about their unpleasant situation, and Seira, a nun, is there to listen to their problem and pray with them. Seira then tells Meimi about the situation so she can transform into Saint Tail and get the item back to the original owner. The objects Saint Tails takes back range from diamonds to running shoes. The last few episodes do bring the series to a satisfying conclusion.

Saint Tail doesn't use real magic, although it looks like she does at times. She actually uses magic tricks that she learns from her dad who is a magician. Her magic tricks are silly, but they fit with the theme of the show. She uses birds, blowing leaves, playing cards, and a lot of balloons to stop guards or to make her getaway. Saint Tail's transformation is kind of neat looking and it didn't bother me having to watch it every episode.

The animation looks average for the most part, with some recycled animation here and there, but it gets the job done. The background music isn't anything special but I did enjoy both the openings and the three endings themes.

Overall, Saint Tail is a good show, but there isn't much that makes it stand out. An average series, but for those who can't get enough magical girl shows, Saint Tail isn't such a bad way to go.
